1950s Heywood Wakefield Pattern Design #1
This fabric design, inspired by folkloric and pastoral themes, captures the essence of rural life with illustrations of people carrying baskets and jugs, animals like llamas and donkeys, and lush botanical motifs. Set against a warm terracotta background, the pattern incorporates muted greens and creams in the stylized leaves, creating a harmonious balance of color and form. Originally found on a Heywood-Wakefield Ashcraft sofa from the 1950s, this design reflects the era’s love for hand-drawn, storybook-style aesthetics and adds a touch of vintage charm to any project.
Using the source images at right, I reproduced the design and printed it on fabric, which I’m using to reupholster cushions for a vintage rattan chair.
