Miami Greyhound Derby Track Game
Miami Greyhound Derby Track Game, No. 1105 by Hipwell Manufacturing, North Side, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Purchased on eBay, January, 2024
As a greyhound memorabilia and vintage games fan, I recently discovered this tin lithograph greyhound betting game I wanted to add to my collection.
“The Miami Greyhound Derby Track is a miniature model of a regular dog track and is equipped with a mechanical rabbit pace maker, the same as regular dog tracks.”
Players can select from four betting strategies: Put and Take, Odd and Even, Play the Lights, and Play the Numbers. Players place bets and then turn the knob at the top. A D-cell battery powers the game, and the glass balls on the top will light up as the rabbit spins.
Hipwell Manufacturing of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, produced the game around the 1940s. Hipwell was founded in 1887 and later became known for their Hipco flashlights. They went out of business around 2004. You can find more information on Hipwell here.
